End of the week musings

5 June 2009

Well it’s Friday, the end of the week. I had fun this week, inbetween feeling like a hedge hog rolling down a steep hill. Ah, but it is Friday and that means it’s about to be a weekend again.

So I spent a good part of the evening yesterday pruning the rhodies back and thinning out the garden in front of my house. All was well when a wind storm came up and shook every petal off the Hawthorne tree and into thin air. My head instantly got covered with these tiny petals and when I awoke this morning the door stoop was covered with them, like a late spring snow storm. It was really sweet to see in its own way.

All of which should tell you what I needed to do first thing this morning with the broom. It was so amazing how many of those little petals landed all over the yard. It seems all it took was a good shake to drop them off the tree. Of course my hair last night needed to be again shaken to get all of them out once inside my house. Also, when I came in the front door last night a gust of wind blew a few thousand inside my house.

I wake up stiff and sore each morning these days. Often I just lay there in bed thinking how I don’t want to face the morning ritual, so I stay as long as I can. I surprised myself because I didn’t get up until 9:30 today. That’s very late for me and should tell you how good the argument was for me to stay where I was.

The biggest thrill of the week was getting an old yearbook on Ebay. It’s a 1904 East Cleveland High School edition. My grandfather was photoed in it as he was a center on their basketball team. I think this is when genealogy gets to be a whole lot of fun. Now I know my father played basketball for the University of Washington and my mother’s father played basketball for his high school. I know he went to Case Western, so I think I’d like to also find an old yearbook from there to see if he played ball there too. And wouldn’t you know I enjoyed playing basketball at Peninsula College. I think I could have made a run for the team at Washington State University, but I was so busy being an A student, I worried my GPA might suffer. I didn’t know much about setting priorities back then.

I have a story I’ll share later today, it’s about LuLu Bear trying to trap a grizzlie bear who’s taken over her den. Look for it.

Meanwhile I am composing my latest canvas, which will be Latin in theme, maybe Costa Rica is the setting. I plan on winning a prize for this one, so I am giving it every thoughtful twist. One day this fall it will be up on my website, I’ll let you kno wwhen it’s there.

Enjoy your day and when you think about me, know that I am having fun afterall. Get out a drawing tablet and join me in spirit.
Best.
Liza
